Zatiaľ čo dobrý dizajn vydrží dlho, na svete je veľa vecí, pre ktoré to neplatí. Odpad sa stal súčasťou nášho každodenného života. Pretože produkovať odpad je dnes ľahké. Keď sa spotrebiče pokazia alebo potraviny nevyzerajú dokonale, zdá sa najjednoduchšie vyhodiť ich a kúpiť nové. Ak je zastarávanie súčasťou každodenného dizajnu, stáva sa aj súčasťou každodenného života. Vieme, že každodenné rozhodnutia každej jednotlivej domácnosti majú moc zmeniť svet.

Je preto dôležité uplatňovať systémový prístup k vývoju produktov podľa našich nových pokynov pre ekodizajn – ide o príručku, ktorú naša skupina vypracovala v spolupráci s odborníkmi z Politecnico di Milano a ktorá položila základ strategických znalostí pre novú generáciu ekologicky účinných spotrebičov. Jeden z krokov vpred spočíva v tom, že od roku 2023 sa bude 70 % nových vyvíjaných produktov riadiť týmito pokynmi pre ekodizajn.

Back in the 70s Dieter Rams developed Braun’s memorable design language and defined 10 principles of good design that are still relevant today. While these principles have been a part of our DNA from the start, we’re always looking to the future.

Good Design is environmentally friendly.

We aim to use as little resources as possible and work on increasing the usage of materials in our products that are either recycled, recyclable, or both.

Moving forward, we are working on having at least 30%* of recycled plastic over the total plastic used in newly developed/upcoming products as of 2027 according to our commitment regarding material recycling.

Moreover, we have already saved more than 100 tons of paper through the partial digitalisation of our user instruction manuals for products globally sold in 2022. Also, there was no EPS (Synthesized Expanded Polystyrene) in the packaging of 53% of the Braun products sold in 2022.

In 1998, we bought a Braun Combimax 700 food processor. My wife likes to cook as a hobby, so it was used almost every day. And not just once or twice, but sometimes for more than 2 or 3 hours – with breaks of course! After about 10 years, we asked ourselves how much longer it could last. So in 2008 we bought a new food processor – a Braun Combimax 700 too, of course – in order to be prepared for when the original stopped working. But it kept working perfectly. Then, on September 25th 2014 (!!!), it finally gave up the ghost after 16 and a half years! Overall calculation: 198 months x 25 days.
