Quarter and finely chop the onions using the chopper accessory.
Melt the butter in a pot over a moderate heat then add the onions and cook until softened.
Dice and chop the carrots with the chopper accessory (in two batches if necessary) and put them into the pot together with the lentils, stirring well to mix.
Add the water and simmer for approx. 10 mins over a medium heat until the carrots are tender.
Once cooked, take the pot off the heat and allow to stand until it has cooked slightly, then blend to a textured purée using the MultiQuick 7 hand blender.
